THE BEGINNING
MORNING

Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines, is a six hour drive away from where I live, in Manila. I went there for college and have always wanted to go back every chance I get. I finally got to go there with one of my best friends a few years after we both graduated. We were both extremely excited because, well, Baguio City was our home.

After breakfast at McDonald's, we got on the bus and chatted incessantly, watching the streets of Manila change into greenery the farther away we got from the city. We napped for a bit then woke up and chatted until the roads became familiar, and we didn’t even mind that our backs hurt and our legs were in desperate need of stretching after six hours. We were so close to home. It was funny how our idea of a vacation was “going home”.
AFTERNOON

We arrived in Baguio at around two in the afternoon and we took a cab to the hotel. The two of us couldn't help grinning, and though we might have looked like idiots, we would look at each other and giggle for no reason. We were so happy to be there.

We dumped our stuff on the bed, snooped around our room for a bit then went out to explore and relearn our favorite city in the world.

We walked up and down Session Road which was the main thoroughfare in Baguio. We have done so a million times when we were students, but this time it was different. We had missed it. We snooped around shops, both the ones we knew and the ones we were unfamiliar with, then walked a bit to see our old university. We were in heaven.

We didn't mind overmuch that it was raining and that our toes were turning blue because of the cold and our wet and squishy shoes. We were just happy.
EVENING

That evening, after exploring and grinning, we had dinner at McDonald's again before riding a jeepney back to our hotel. I would have wanted to wander longer but I was tired and sleepy. Besides, we had more time to explore the next day.

I plopped into bed after changing into pajamas. My friend plopped in front of the TV to watch CSI. I snuggled under the covers and grinned again. I couldn't believe that I was on vacation in Baguio again, and I was sad that I would have to leave in a few days.

No matter, I told myself. I was going to make the most of it. I fell asleep, smiling, thinking that only a vacation in Ireland or one of the Greek Isles would top that one off.
