THE BEGINNING
MORNING
As a child, I was pretty mischievous. I wanted to explore everything and I often got into trouble for it. One of my scariest moments was when I was bitten by a strange dog.
I was walking down the street where I lived when I saw a stray dog at the end of the street by the traffic light. It was a pretty big black dog. Before I knew it, the dog was running full speed at me.
I turned and started running as if my pants were on fire. I tried to weave left and right when the dog had caught up to me. But it didn't work.
The dog took a bite into my leg and I screamed. I fell over and it almost took a bite into my arm but I kicked it back a little. Some people had come over and grabbed at the dog. I'm not sure if they hit the dog or not, but it eventually gave up the fight.
AFTERNOON
I ran home to find my mom. I showed her the dog bite and she immediately took me to our doctor. Our family doctor was only a few miles away. So, we got there pretty quickly.
He looked over my wounds and they washed and disinfected it. Then, I had to get the painful rabies shot. I remember having to look away and making fists as the needle went in.
I don't have a fear of needles. I even donated blood a few years ago. But when I saw the needle that day, I thought my blood went cold. I really thought that I was going to pass out.
EVENING
I was careful not to touch the part of my leg that was bit. The pain was still stinging and I really wanted to get revenge on that dog. But I would never see it again. Plus, I would never be sure if it was the same dog even if I saw it. So, I just had to forget about it.
I don't think this event has changed my life at all. But it was definitely one of those things that you don't forget. I still loves dogs and all animals in general. And, like I said, needles don't bother me.
So, this is just another day in my life. Except, it was also the most painful day physically.
