THE BEGINNING
MORNING
I got my first car the month before my final year in high school. It was a used 1989 white Camry. I couldn't wait to take it for a spin. We spent a couple thousand dollars on it. But it was worth the money.
I was going to need it my senior year. I had to drive to take SAT's. I was on the tennis team and we would rotate drivers when we went on away games. I also wanted to be able to go out whenever I wanted.
I got my license a few months prior to getting my car. I spent weeks learning how to park, reverse, merge, and all the other fun stuff.
That morning, we met with the owner and I took the car for a test drive. I was satisfied with it and so was my father. So, we paid the owner in cash and took the car home.
AFTERNOON
That afternoon I took the car out for the first time. I filled up the gas tank and got a car wash. Then I went to pick up a friend for lunch.
We went to watch a movie. Afterwards, we drove around town for a while. I remember how cheap the gas was from now. It seems like forever ago.
I get some air-fresheners for my car too. I felt like I had this new freedom and needed to exercise it. We go to the beach and hang out there for a while.
EVENING
That night I had dinner with my family. I was still riding the wave I caught that day. My parents tell me that I need to drive my brothers and sisters around. And that I have to be careful and responsible whenever I drive.
I would later wreck the car. But that was not my fault. And it would eventually get me the car that I really wanted, a navy blue Rav4.
I guess I'll always be excited when I get a new car. Something about new and shiny gets my heart pumping quicker...
