THE BEGINNING
MORNING

My graduation was almost like the end of one life and the beginning of another. On one hand, I had finished getting my degree. All the exams, papers, homework, and labs finally paid off.

I've lived in San Diego most of my life and went to UCSD for a computer engineering degree. It wasn't what I expected. I thought that I would be designing the next wave of computers or something like that.

Instead, I learned how much theory goes into engineering. I also took a lot of programming classes for my major. They were both challenging and they both made me better at doing problem solving. I would eventually go into a career of software engineering.

The morning of my graduation, I remember being a little nervous. I had gone to several graduations at UCSD before, but now I was wondering how things were going to happen for me.
AFTERNOON

The ceremonies went by quickly in the afternoon sun. I sat there thinking of where my other friends were as they were graduating from different colleges at UCSD.

The speakers gave their inspirational speeches and told us of the future to come. They congratulated us on all the hard work and making UCSD special.

Then we walked across the platform to be handed our diplomas. Its a good feeling to walk from one side to the other.

Afterwards, I meet up with my friends graduating from the other graduating classes. We get pictures taken and congratulate each other. I know many of them will be leaving San Diego for jobs in other places. Its hard to see them go, but I wish them the best.
EVENING

That night, my family and I had dinner with a few other friend's families at the fancy steakhouse, Ruth's Chris. It was my first time there and the food was very good. I had a T-bone and mashed potatoes.

We laughed and talked for hours. I told them how I wanted to take a month off to relax a little. I had already submitted my resume to several companies and did some preliminary interviews.

My younger brother had just finished his first year of college. I joked with him about how much more difficult it was going to get. And how I had to live in the library the final year. I had to have some fun at his expense.

My new life was about to begin and it was not as I expected either. But that's going to be for another day.
