MORNING

The Witch Fire, of the California Fires, a few months ago is one of the events that I remember well. This fire is very similar to the one a few years earlier. In both fires, you could smell the ash in the air. There was a real fear that we could be in danger and maybe losing our homes.

The one that occurred years before this one came very close to our Mira Mesa home. It had burned down several homes in the near-by community of Scripps Ranch.

This time we were more prepared in terms of what we should take and where we should go. I keep all my important documents in a easy carry-bag. And we pack our clothes just in case. We put these things in the car and are ready to leave at any moment.

AFTERNOON

I still go to work since the company has not shut down for the fires. But I am constantly checking the news for the latest updates. I hear about the evacuations just north of us and I try to find out how far away. But right now its just a waiting game.

I leave work and call my wife to see how they are doing at home. She lets me know that they are all fine. I get home and turn on the news. Its amazing to see the satellite images of how large the multiple fires are. It looks like all of southern California is on fire.

I call a couple of close friends to see how they are doing. Luckily none of us are directly affected by the fires. I know of some co-workers who are not lucky.

EVENING

A few days of uncertainty go by and when it's all over, we are thankful for getting through it safely. I know this will not be the last time we will have fires and we always have to be prepared for whatever happens.

We have many friends over one evening to hang out with each other. We all talk about how close things were and how lucky we are.
